A Virginia hemp company planned to organize farmers to grow industrial hemp across 1,400 decares for its $3.3 million facility. It aimed to pay Virginia farmers up to $5 million over three years.

Shenandoah Valley Hemp, LLC (Pure Shenandoah) said investment would expand existing extraction facilities and establish a fiber processing line, both planned to operate by autumn 2021.

Cultivation director Jake Johnson said the company planned to add existing farms to its partner network to grow as much fiber hemp as possible in 2021.

A shift toward fiber

The investment could balance production dominated by CBD. Virginia's existing 2,000 decares of hemp would expand by another 1,400 through the company's investment.

Founded in 2018, Pure Shenandoah is a family business run by Johnson and three brothers. Initially focused on CBD, it hoped to repeat that success in industrial hemp.
