E-commerce giant Amazon launched a UK-only pilot program with selected CBD brands.

Initially taking no action against CBD sales, Amazon later banned them because counterfeit products proliferated. Selected sellers in the UK-site pilot would be exempt.

The company said the pilot applied only to Amazon.co.uk listings and not other Amazon sites. It was not accepting new sellers.

Participating brands included UK-based Healthspan and Natures Aid.

Harry Staight, managing corporate communications for Amazon UK, said the program began in summer. He did not comment on the number invited, selection criteria or evaluation methods.

The UK CBD market was forecast to reach £1 billion by 2025. A major player such as Amazon could hardly be expected to ignore it.
