University of South Florida researchers said applying CBD oil to strawberries could extend shelf life and potentially open a new use for hemp extract.
A study published in Postharvest Biology and Technology found promising potential for CBD oil as an antimicrobial treatment for fresh produce.
Researchers applied oil to fresh strawberries and stored them for eight days at 33.8°F and eight days at 50°F. Compared with untreated fruit, CBD oil effectively preserved their visual appearance.
They also found it reduced microbial load and inhibited yeast and mold growth.
