Bloomberg reported in 2018 that Coca-Cola and Canada's Aurora Cannabis were discussing CBD. Afterward, Coca-Cola spokesman Kent Landers said the company was monitoring CBD as a potential ingredient for wellness drinks.
Although Aurora was not named in the statement, its shares rose 23%. Interest from one of the five largest drinks companies boosted shares in many cannabis companies as well as Aurora, energizing the sector.
Recently, a video posted by a user called “Gabor the Blind Guy” claimed Coca-Cola might begin adding CBD to its drinks. The poster claimed the company had requested machinery from his father's Canadian business to make a child-resistant cap. The video was later deleted.
Kent Landers subsequently issued a statement denying rumors that Coca-Cola would enter the CBD market.
Despite annual rumors, we have yet to see a product. Even interest from such a large company creates excitement, so people may be amplifying the smallest rumor. It is best to wait until a real product appears on shelves and treat these claims as rumors until then.
