CBD oil is known as a useful aid in treating dozens of conditions, including anxiety, pain and epilepsy. Researchers around the world have found strong evidence suggesting that CBD could treat conditions ranging from skin disorders to liver disease.

Most of this research is at an early stage, and some studies focus only on the endocannabinoid system, but CBD has offered hope to people living with these particular conditions.

Below, we have compiled the conditions for which CBD has the strongest scientific support as a potential treatment.

1. Acne
Several studies have examined CBD oil and the endocannabinoid system in acne treatment. Research by Tamás Bíró at the University of Debrecen found that CBD at the right dose could inhibit lipid formation and reduce acne.

3. Addiction
Many studies have investigated CBD oil for dependence on various substances. Studies suggest that CBD could help with dependence on alcohol, cannabis, cocaine, heroin, morphine, methamphetamine, nicotine, opioids and tobacco. A clinical trial led by Yasmin Hurd at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York observed reduced cravings and anxiety in people recovering from heroin addiction.

4. Alzheimer's disease
Various studies support investigating CBD and cannabis for people with Alzheimer's. Researchers at the Universitat de Barcelona and Spain's Carlos III Health Institute found that cannabis-based medicine helped reduce memory impairment in mice with late-stage Alzheimer's.

5. Anxiety
CBD oil may help with anxiety and stress disorders, such as social anxiety disorder or phobias. A study by scientists at the University of São Paulo found that CBD significantly reduced anxiety, cognitive impairment and discomfort during a simulated public speaking test.

6. Arthritis
According to studies, CBD has “powerful” anti-inflammatory properties that could help in arthritis treatment. Researchers at Britain's Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases found that Sativex reduced pain during movement and at rest in people with rheumatoid arthritis.

7. Asthma
Research suggests CBD oil can reduce asthma symptoms. Researchers from several Brazilian universities, led by Francieli Vuolo, found that CBD significantly suppressed inflammation-causing cytokines in the lungs of rats with asthma. The same cytokines are present in human asthma.

8. Autism
A study by Israeli scientists at Ben-Gurion University, together with the father of cannabis research, Raphael Mechoulam, reported that CBD helped improve quality of life in more than 80% of the participating children with autism. CBD helped with irritability, anxiety and social behavior in these children.

9. Cancer
Studies have reported various benefits of CBD in cancer. A study led by Dr. Julian Kenyon at Britain's Dove Clinic observed a clinical response to a synthetic form of CBD in 92% of patients, with tumors shrinking in some and growth stopping in others. Although Dr. Kenyon does not consider it a stand-alone treatment, CBD oil may help kill cancer cells and reduce pain in cancer patients.

Note: Synthetic CBD used in a laboratory should not be confused with synthetic CBD that may be sold on the consumer market. The article recommends plant-derived cannabinoids in consumer products.

10. Inflammatory bowel conditions
Researchers have found possible benefits of CBD for Crohn's disease, colitis, inflammatory bowel syndrome and related conditions. Research at Tel Aviv University's Department of Gastroenterology found that cannabis improved quality of life, reduced disease activity and increased weight and BMI in people with chronic illness.

11. Depression
As with anxiety, research suggests CBD could be effective for depression. Researchers at the University of São Paulo found antidepressant effects in mice, which they believed were mediated by serotonin receptors.

12. Diabetes
A study at Hadassah University Hospital in Israel suggested that CBD oil might treat or prevent diabetes by inhibiting insulitis, a pancreatic condition, and suppressing the inflammatory cytokine response.

13. Epilepsy
CBD oil's use in epilepsy treatment has clinical evidence. Researchers in Stanford University's Department of Neurology, led by Brenda Porter, found that a CBD medicine significantly reduced seizures in children with difficult-to-treat epilepsy.

14. Fibromyalgia
Research at Spain's Institut de Recerca Hospital del Mar found that cannabis use overall could significantly reduce pain and stiffness in people with fibromyalgia.

15. Glaucoma
A study by scientists at the Medical College of Georgia provided evidence that CBD might help combat glaucoma by protecting neurons from excess glutamate, which kills retinal neurons.

16. Heart disease
A large body of research suggests CBD might help with different kinds of heart disease. Researchers at Robert Gordon University's Institute for Health and Welfare Research, led by Dr. Sarah Walsh, found that CBD reduced ventricular arrhythmias and infarct size.

17. HIV / AIDS
Harvard Medical School scientists found evidence that CBD could inhibit growth and cause death in Kaposi sarcoma cells, cancer cells often associated with HIV and AIDS.

18. Huntington's disease
According to research by scientists at Spain's Universidad Complutense, CBD's neuroprotective properties could potentially slow Huntington's disease progression or improve patients' quality of life.

19. Kidney disease
In research led by Pan Shiyuan, PhD, scientists at China's Zhejiang University found that CBD could reduce nephrotoxicity, toxic damage in the kidneys, by reducing oxidative stress, inflammation and kidney cell death, thereby helping kidney function.

20. Liver disease
Research suggests CBD might help with various liver diseases. In particular, scientists in the Department of Pharmacology and Systems Therapeutics at Mount Sinai School of Medicine found that CBD could inhibit liver scarring during liver disease.
